News

I have had problems updating my website recently but at last I am able to do so. Good timing as copies of my latest book have just arrived. 'Daisy's War' is set during World War Two on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. It is a place I know well as I grew up there in the 1950s. Daisy works in the NAAFI serving soldiers and sailors with snacks and cigarettes. Her workmates welcome the opportunity to meet young men but Daisy has promised to stay true to her childhood sweetheart, Bob who is serving overseas. Then she meets tall, handsome soldier Chris.

Divided Loyalty, a wartime romance, has been re-issued by Books We Love in paperback and ebook, available from Amazon and in all ebook formats.

Madeleine's Enterprise

Published October 2018 by Books We love

Madeleine has been left destitute by her father's sudden death. Her mother thinks marriage to wealthy businessman Ralph Newman is the answer to their problems. But Madeleine will not marry for money and sets about starting her own business, unheard of for a woman at the start of the 20th century. She has fallen in love with Naval officer Stephen but will romance stand in the way of her success?

The Blacksmith's Daughter and On Wings of Song

New Publisher

I have a new publisher - Books We Love is a Canadian publisher and they have not only brought out my new novel 'Farewell Innocence', but they are publishing some of my backlist too. 'On Wings of Song' and 'The Blacksmith's Daughter' are already available and more will hopefully follow shortly.

'Duty and Deception'

My eighth hardback from Robert Hale, was published on July 31st 2015.

Set in the Edwardian era, it is about a young woman who gets involved with the suffrage movement against her father's wishes.

'Sweet Vengeance'.

This, my ninth paperback, was originally published as a My Weekly Pocket Novel under the title 'Avenged Heart' It is now re-issued as a Large Print Linford Romance.

This is my first contemporary novel, marking a departure from my usual historical stories.

Screenplay

My screenplay 'Greater Love Hath No Man', set during World War One, was runner-up in the Society of Women Writers and Journalists conference competition. The judge said that she much enjoyed this sensitively done screenplay. I am now working on another screenplay for a competition run by Chichester Film and Video Makers.

Local radio

My novels 'Rising Tide' and 'Divided Loyalty' have been reviewed on Spirit fm's local authors page. There is also an article by me with tips on writing historical romance.

Film Club News

Chichester Film and Video Makers have finished shooting 'The Reunion' my latest script, another adaptation of one of my short stories. The theme of 'two sides to every story' is about two women meeting for a school reunion and comparing their different lives. It was entered for last year's inter-club competition, the Albany. Unfortunately it did not win but received an award for best edited film - not down to me of course but I'm pleased it did well. It could be entered in other competitions later this year so...

Screenplay

Judging of 'Second Chance' the film I wrote for Chichester Film and Video Makers Club took place in March 2013. Our film came second out of seven very professional entries. It was also awarded three stars in the British International Amateur Film Festival (BIAFF)awards 2014.The film was an adaptation of one of my short stories.

Reviews

Here are some of the nice things people have said about my books

Abigail’s Secret

‘The sense of the period is exactly right and the story has pace and integrity as well as characters who come alive in the pages.’ – Peter Lovesey

‘A heart warming tale of passion, revenge, tragedy, survival and romance – a brilliant debut novel by a fantastic new writer of historical sagas.’ – www.redrosesforauthors.blogspot.com

No Sin to Love

‘A compelling wartime saga – a tale of family secrets and romantic intrigue.’ www.singletitles.com

On Wings of Song

‘ – has all the ingredients of an enjoyable read. Roberta has researched and given us a clear insight into life for the nurses and patients in the Crimean War.’ - The Woman Writer.

Threads of Silk

‘The author is a true storyteller. From the very first sentence we are into the story with a perfect setting and excellent characterisation.’ – The Woman Writer.

Love or Duty

'Your best one yet' - Trish Doherty, Spain.

Full Circle

'The characters are well-rounded and believable... This is a book I can thoroughly recommend' - The Woman Writer.

Divided Loyalty

'Not just a wartime romance, Divided Loyalty is a story well-researched for the social circumstances of the time, and of individuals during the Second World War. The women who wait and work at home and the men keeping 'a stiff upper lip' in uneasy times are well characterised.' - The Woman Writer.
